Women's Basketball returns home to host Quinnipiac

Game part of a men's and women's doubleheader on Sunday, Nov. 24

Orono, Maine -- The Black Bears return home to host Quinnipiac in the second game of a men's and women's basketball doubleheader at Memorial Gymnasium on Sunday, Nov. 24 with tipoff set for approximately 2 p.m. Maine is looking for its first career win over the Bobcats in the fifth career meeting and second in Orono. Limited tickets for the game remain available at GoBlackBears.com/tickets.

Broadcast Details: Sunday's game will be live streamed on ESPN+. The game can also be heard on the Black Bears Sports Network and on 92.9 FM.

As part of the doubleheader, the Black Bears will join forces with Marden's Surplus and Salvage for a sock drive. Fans are asked to bring socks to the game and distribute them in bins located in the lobby area. Socks collected will go to support local organizations in need. One ticket gets you in to see both games! Fans are asked to arrive early to support the men's basketball team when it takes on Holy Cross at noon and make sure to be present for a special halftime ceremony at the men's game as we recognize former coach and all-conference men's basketball player Skip Chappelle.

Note: Concessions services at Memorial Gymnasium is now cashless and will remain cashless throughout hte 2024-25 season.

LAST TIME OUT:
BOSTON, Mass. -- Asta Blauenfeldt registered a career-high 24 points in Maine's 67-57 loss at Boston University on Thursday evening.

Blauenfeldt posted her best effort in her short Maine career, going 9-of-11 from the floor with four triples to go along with four steals and three rebounds. Olivia Rockwood added three triples for nine points while Sarah Talon also posted a nine point night.

Maine, which shot 8-of-17 in the first quarter, ended the game 22-of-61 (36.1) with eight triples.

The Black Bears came out on fire, jumping out to a 12 point lead in the first quarter.

A LOOK AT THE BLACK BEARS:
Maine, which has won 12 of its last 14 at home, looks to snap a rare two-game losing skid on its home court. Caroline Bornemann leads the Black Bears, with double-digit scoring in three of Maine's first five games. Bornemann leads three double-digit scorers at 12.2 points per game to rank sixth among America East leaders in the category. Bornemann, who has posted a pair of double-doubles this season, checks in second in the league at 9.2 rebounds per game. Sarah Talon is adding 12.0 points per game, eighth best in the conference, with a 50.0 percent mark from the floor. Paula Gallego averages 10.8 points per game, ranks third in AE at 55.6 percent from the floor, and is ninth in both rebounding (5.4) and assists (2.8).

A LOOK AT QUINNIPIAC:
The Bobcats are off to a 4-0 start with recent wins over Cornell, Princeton, and Harvard. Quinnipiac, selected tied for third in the MAAC Preseason Coaches' Poll, feature a trio of preseason all-conference selections in Anna Foley, Jackie Grisdale, and Karson Martin. The Bobcats feature the MAAC's second ranked offense (71.0) and fourth ranked defense (60.0) and lead the conference in three-point shooting (35.8) and free throws per game (16.5). Martin leads the Bobcats in scoring at 15.5 points per game while Gal Raviv is adding 15.0. Grisdale is averaging 14.8 points followed by Foley at 9.5 points and a team-leading 6.5 rebounds.

SERIES WITH QUINNIPIAC:
Maine is searching for its first-ever win over Quinnipiac as it enters play 0-4 all-time against the Bobcats and 0-1 at home in the series. Last season, Quinnipiac scored a 70-57 victory in the season opener for both teams. The contest marks Quinnipiac's first visit to Orono since 2007. The teams met in the 2016 WNIT with Quinnipiac coming out on top on its home court, 90-44. The teams first met in 2007, a 70-49 win by the Bobcats in the second round of the Dead River Company Classic in Orono. Maine came up short at Quinnipiac in 2009 by a score of 68-59.
