Black Bears earn road win at Northeastern in Hockey East opener

Maine earned a 4-1 win in the conference opener.

ORONO, Maine – The #6 University of Maine men's ice hockey team earned a 4-1 win at Northeastern on Friday night at Matthews Arena.
 
After a scoreless first period, Thomas Freel broke the deadlock with a power-play goal in front of the net at the 12:53 mark. Less than two minutes later, Taylor Makar made it 2-0 when he deflected a pass past Cameron Whitehead.
 
The final two minutes of the game saw three different goals. After Harrison Scott potted an empty-netter to make it 3-0, the Huskies pulled one back before Nolan Renwick's solo effort iced the game at 4-1.

  • The Black Bears went 1-for-3 on the power play while Northeastern went 0-for-4.
