The Black Bears will compete in 15 non-conference games, including four home contests

Orono, Maine – The University of Maine men's basketball team announced its 2023 non-conference schedule on Tuesday afternoon. The schedule features 15 games, four of which will be home contests.

The Black Bears are coming off of a 2022-23 season in which they picked up their most wins since the 2010-11 season, wrapping up the campaign with a 13-17 overall mark. Maine returns four of its five starters from a year ago to this year's club.

Maine will start off the new season with a road contest at Charlotte on Monday, Nov. 6. This marks the first time the Black Bears will square off against Charlotte in program history.

Maine returns home on Wednesday, Nov. 8 and Sunday, Nov. 12 for back-to-back home games. The Black Bears will take on UMaine Presque Isle on Wednesday before facing off against the Warriors of Merrimack College on Sunday. The Black Bears defeated Merrimack in 2022, 50-47 at Merrimack. Kellen Tynes led the way in scoring for Maine with 12 points and he had five steals.

The Black Bears will head to Florida for an extended trip beginning on Thursday, Nov. 16 and concluding on Wednesday, Nov. 22 as they are set to play four games in the Sunshine State. The Black Bears will take on Northwestern State (Southland) on Thursday, Presbyterian on Friday, and conclude the three-game set against North Florida on Saturday.

Maine wraps up its first trip to Florida in the 2023-24 season with a stop at South Florida on Wednesday, Nov. 22. This will be the first meeting between these two programs since the 1977-78 season and the third overall contest in the head-to-head series.

The Black Bears complete their six-game road trip with stops at Columbia and Holy Cross on Saturday, Nov. 25 and Wednesday, Nov. 29. Maine defeated Columbia in Orono in 2022, 93-70 behind double-digit scoring performances from five Black Bears.

Maine returns home to host Brown on Sunday, Dec. 3 for the second meeting between the two teams in as many years.

The Black Bears head on the road for a single game on Wednesday, Dec. 6 as they travel to take on Boston University. The two programs will be facing off for the 103rd time in their long history and the first meeting since the 2017-18 season.

Maine concludes its home portion of the non-conference schedule on Saturday, Dec. 9 as they play host to Central Connecticut State University. The Black Bears went to Central Connecticut a season ago and took down the Blue Devils behind a combined 45 points from Tynes and Gedi Juozapaitis.

The Black Bears end the non-conference portion of the schedule with three-straight road contests; at UCF on Monday, Dec. 18, at Florida International on Thursday, Dec. 21, and at Minnesota on Friday, Dec. 29.
