Coral Gables, FL - The University of Maine baseball team had their season come to an end at the Coral Gables Regional on Saturday afternoon, 19-10 by Louisiana.

Second Inning: Louisiana played small ball in the second frame as they scored four runs, all via singles, to jump out to a 4-0 lead after the second frame.

Third Inning: Jake Rainess got the Black Bears on the board with a single to center field, scoring Jake Marquez (1B).

Fourth Inning: Kyle DeBarge hit a three-run home run for Louisiana to make it 7-1.

Fifth inning: Jake Marquez launched his second home run of the season as he hit a no-doubt two-run shot to left field. Dean O'Neill (1B) scored on the play.

Gianni Gambardella was called on to begin the fifth inning for the Black Bears. Caleb Leys allowed 7 runs on 5 hits, 3 walks and 3 strikeouts across 4 innings of work.

Louisiana put up three runs in the bottom of the frame on a single and a two-run double.

Sixth Inning: Dean O'Neill hit his first collegiate home run in the top of the sixth inning, a two-run home run. Matt McElwain (1B) scored on the play.

Seventh Inning: Louisiana scored nine runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to break the game wide open as they lead 19-5 after the seventh inning.

Luc Lavigueur was called on the seventh inning in relief of Gambardella. Gambardella allowed 8 runs (7 earned) on 8 hits and 2 walks across 2 innings of work.

Colton Carson was called on as Lavigueur record just one out, allowing 4 runs on 4 hits.

Eighth Inning: Maine went down swinging in the contest as Jeremiah Jenkins hit a solo home run to right field to begin the five-run inning for the Black Bears. The home run was his 21st of the season.

Dean O'Neill continued his best offensive game of the season as he hit his second home run of the game, this one being a three-run shot to left field. Matt McElwain (BB) and Nick White (1B) scored on the play.

Quinn McDaniel capped off the scoring as he scored Jake Marquez (2B) on a fielders choice.

Carson Fluno (4-1) picked up the win for Louisiana.

Caleb Leys (5-1) took the loss for Maine.

Maine concluded the 2023 season with a 32-21 record after qualifying for their first NCAA Regional since the 2011 season.
