Maine Takes on Winner of Binghamton, UMBC on Friday, May 26 at 1 P.M.

Vestel, NY – The University of Maine baseball team began their 2023 America East Tournament run with a win over #5 UMass Lowell, 10-7.

First Inning: Fritz Genther got the River Hawks on the board first as he singled home a run.

Nick White answered for the Black Bears in the bottom of the frame as he hit a double down the left field line, bringing home Jeremiah Jenkins (BB).

Third Inning: Genther added two more runs to his total on the day as he hit a home run to left field.

Noah Lewis was called on for the Black Bears in relief. Colin Fitzgerald went 2 and 2/3 innings in the start, allowing 3 runs on 4 hits, 1 walk and striking out 3.

Quinn McDaniel answered in the bottom of the third as he hit his 15^th home run of the season, this one being a solo shot to right field.

Three batters later, Nick White put the Black Bears back in front with his third home run of the season, a two-run shot to right field. Connor Goodman (E3) scored on the play.

Fourth Inning: UMass Lowell scored a pair of runs in the fourth inning, one of which was unearned.

Fifth Inning: Matt McElwain put the Black Bears back in front for good as he hit a no-doubt home run to left field, scoring Nick White (FC) on the play.

Sixth Inning: Jeremiah Jenkins began adding on some insurance runs for the Black Bears as he singled home a pair of runs in the form of Colin Plante (1B) and Jake Rainess (BB).

Connor Goodman capped off the 3-run inning for Maine with an RBI-groundout, scoring Quinn McDaniel (BB).

Seventh Inning: Trey Brown hit a solo home run in the seventh frame for the River Hawks, making it a 9-7 game.

Eighth Inning: Connor Goodman added on the 10^th run of the contest for the Black Bears as he singled to right field, scoring Quinn McDaniel (BB).

Ninth Inning: Justin Baeyens was called on to pick up the save in the ninth inning for Maine. Noah Lewis was strong out of the bullpen as he allowed 4 runs (3 earned) on 5 hits, 3 walks and 4 strikeouts across 5 and 1/3 innings of relief.

Noah Lewis (7-1) picked up the victory for Maine.

Justin Baeyens (7) picked up the save for the Black Bears as he sat down all three batters he faced in the final frame.

Matt Draper (3-9) took the loss for UMass Lowell.

Maine, who made it a 30-win season with the victory, moves on to the America East Semifinals on Friday, May 26. They will face the winner of the #3 Binghamton vs #2 UMBC matchup at 3:00 P.M. on Thursday, May 25.
