Goodman has been named Player of the Week, Gambardella named Rookie of the Week
Orono, ME - The America East Conference announced on Tuesday afternoon that a pair of University of Maine baseball players earned weekly honors for their performances in the opening weekend series against Pittsburgh. Connor Goodman has been named Player of the Week, Gianni Gambardella has been named Rookie of the Week.
Goodman, a native of Miami Beach, FL, had a big opening weekend for the Black Bears. He slashed .455/.563/.909 on the weekend, picking up five hits in 11 at-bats. He hit a pair of doubles, a three-run home run and scored two runs in the 2-1 weekend for the Black Bears. He drove in a conference-best nine RBI's on the opening weekend.
Gambardella, a native of West Haven, CT, put together a strong showing in his collegiate debut. He went 3.0 innings of relief in the series finale on Sunday, allowing a 1.33 WHIP (4 hits), one earned run (3.00 ERA) with no walks and striking out four. He earned the victory in the contest.
Maine, who picked up their first series victory in February since the 2017 season, will look to build on a solid opening weekend as they are set to participate in the Penn State Tourney from Feb. 24-27. The tournament will take place in Cary, NC.
