PREVIEW: Women's Basketball returns home to host Harvard

Black Bears welcome the Crimson to Memorial Gym Wednesday at 6 p.m.

Orono, Maine -- Following a five-game stretch away from Orono, the Black Bears return home for the first time since Nov. 14 to host Harvard on Wednesday at 6 p.m. following a thrilling road win at Fordham.

Wednesday's game will be live streamed on ESPN+ and can be heard nationwide at GoBlackBears.com. Due to a programming conflict, the game will not be broadcast locally on 92.9 FM.

A LOOK AT THE BLACK BEARS:
Maine enters action ranked fifth in the America East in scoring (59.4) and fourth in defense (60.7) while boasting the league's top rebounding average at 38.9 per game. Maine has outrebounded six of its eight opponents this season and lead the league with a +5.9 rebounding margin.

Individually, Maine is led by three-time America East Player of the Week Anne Simon. Simon leads the America East in scoring, ranking 39th overall, at 19.1 points per game. Simon, who averaged 30.5 points in two games last week, ranks ninth on Maine's all-time scoring list with 1,529 and recently became just the fourth player in program history to eclipse 1,500 points, 500 rebounds, 500 assists, and 500 steals in a career. Simon has registered double-digits in each of her last three outings including a career-best 34 point effort against #17 Indiana. Adrianna Smith leads the nation in double-doubles with six on the season including one in each of her last four games. Smith does it all for the Black Bears as she ranks in the top 10 among America East leaders in scoring (9th - 12.7), rebounding (1st - 11.6), and assists (5th - 2.8).

A LOOK AT HARVARD:
The Crimson is 5-3 on the season 2-2 on the road, and is coming off an 80-66 loss against Michigan at home on Saturday. Harvard, which has played two ranked opponents this season (No. 14 Maryland, No. 21 Baylor), rank sixth in the Ivy League in scoring defense (68.4) and second in scoring offense (73.8). The Crimson Harvard leads the Ivy from the free throw stripe with 14.5 makes at the stripe per game. Defensively, Harvard averages 16.6 takeaways per game and boast the Ivy's top three-point defense (25.0). Harmoni Turner leads Harvard in scoring at 20.6 points per game, second best in the Ivy and 24th nationally, while Lola Mullaney is adding 15.1  points. Mullany does her damage from the three-point arc where she leads the Ivy with a 35.8 percent from downtown.

SERIES WITH HARVARD:
Maine and Harvard will meet for the 19th time and the second in as many years. Maine holds a 10-8 all-time mark over the Crimson.  Harvard has won each of the past two meetings including an 84-56 decision a year ago in Cambridge and a 69-40 mark in its last visit to Maine in 2019. In last season's meeting, Adrianna Smith led Maine with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Maine and Harvard's first-ever meeting came in 1984, an 86-56 Black Bear win. Maine is 6-3 all-time at home against Harvard. Maine's win in the series came in 2018, a 67-60 decision. The Black Bears have not defeated Harvard at home sine 2017.
