Preview: Soccer Set to Host Vermont in America East Semifinal

The Black Bears and Catamounts will battle for a spot in the title game.

ORONO, Maine – The University of Maine women's soccer team will host Vermont in the America East Championships semifinal round at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 2 at Mahaney Diamond.

Tickets are available online HERE, over the phone at 207-581-BEAR or in-person at the Alfond Arena ticket office during normal business hours.

Tickets can also be purchased on Thursday night at the gates to Mahaney Diamond. 
 
The second-seeded Black Bears earned a first-round bye while the sixth-seeded Catamounts come to Orono after defeating New Hampshire, 2-1, in the quarterfinal round on Monday night.
 
The winner will advance to the America East Championships title game, which will be held on Sunday, Nov. 5 at the highest remaining seed.

ABOUT MAINE
• Maine brings an overall record of 9-1-6 into Thursday night's tournament semifinal … the Black Bears finished the America East regular season slate in second place with a 4-1-3 mark to earn its best tournament seed since 2005.
• The Black Bears last played on Oct. 27, battling New Hampshire to a 0-0 tie in the regular season finale.
• Abby Kraemer leads the conference in points (26), points per game (1.86), goals (11), shots (52) and shots per game (3.71) … she has a career-high five game-winning goals on the year and has also set career-bests in goals (11), assists (24) and points (26).
• On the national scale, Abby Kraemer is 15th in goals per game (0.79), eighth in game-winning goals (5) and 14th in point s per game (1.86).
• Kira Kutzinski is 9-1-6 on the year with five shutouts, a .806 save percentage and an 0.875 goals against average.
• The Black Bears opened up the season with a program record 8-0-4 unbeaten streak.
 
ABOUT VERMONT
• Vermont enters Thursday night at 10-6-1 after topping New Hampshire, 2-1, in the quarterfinal round of the America East tournament on Monday.
• Kate Bossert leads the Catamounts with 22 points and 10 goals while adding two assists … she has a team-leading 25 shots on goal.
• Bailey Ayer is second on the team with 15 points off of five goals and a team-high five assists.
• Goalkeeper Erin Murphy has played the majority of minutes in goal with a .765 save percentage, 1.14 goals against average and two shutouts … Murphy has yet to face the Black Bears, as Kylee Carafoli got the start at Maine back in September.
 
SERIES HISTORY
• The Catamounts hold an edge of 11-16-6 in the all-time series with the Black Bears.
• These two teams met back on Sept. 17 in Orono, with the Black Bears scoring three second-half goals for a 3-2 comeback win … Abby Kraemer, Luise Reinwald and Jordane Pinette scored the goals for Maine while the team had an 8-4 edge in shots on goal and a 9-2 edge in corner kicks.
 
AWARDS SEASON
• Several Black Bears were honored with America East awards this week.
• Abby Kraemer was named Striker of the Year while the Maine coaching staff earned Coaching Staff of the Year honors.
• Kraemer, Myla Schneider and Lara Kirkby were named to the America East First Team while Kristina Kelly earned a second team nod and first-year players Luise Reinwald, Abbey Thornton and Victoria Dungey earned spots on the All-Rookie Team.
• Additionally, Kraemer and Schneider earned spots on the America East All-Academic Team.
