Bridgewater, Mass. - The University of Maine women's ice hockey team shut out the Stonehill Skyhawks by a score of 7-0 in Friday night's game.
Period 1: The first period came with four goals for a quick, dominant lead by the Black Bears. Freshman
Ashley Kokavec struck first just eight minutes in, notching her first collegiate goal. Kokavec picked up her second goal of the game just a few minutes later. Freshman
Mikayla Boarder found the back of the net on short-handed goal, for her first career goal as well.
Ann-Frederique Guay additionally scored her first goal as a Maine Black Bear giving the team a four goal lead after the first.
Ida Kuoppala earned two assists, as
Lily Fetch tallied one assist.
Period 2:
Ann-Frederique Guay slid her second goal of the game past Stonehill goaltender Zukow, with an assist by
Rahel Enzler. Some penalty trouble led to the Black Bears killing off six minutes of Stonehill's powerplay opportunities.
Period 3: Mira Seregely and
Ida Kuoppala finsihed the game each tallying a goal, with
Ashley Kokavec and
Sam Morrison earning assists.
Senior goaltender,
Jorden Mattison earned her fifth career shutout making 23 saves on 23 shots.
Game two is set for 1pm, Saturday October 7th, back at Bridgwater Ice Arena.
