ORONO, ME – The University of Maine baseball team opened up their Series against Hartford with a win on Friday evening, 7-5.

First Inning: Maine jumped out to an early lead in the bottom of the opening frame as Quinn McDaniel hit a triple to center field, bringing home Jeff Mejia, who also hit a triple in the frame. Joe Bramanti drove in McDaniel on a sac-fly in the next at-bat, giving the Black Bears an early 2-0 lead.

Second Inning: Kevin Koziol got the Hawks on the board as he hit a ground-rule-double to left center, bringing home Daniel Burnett.

Third Inning: Joe Bramanti drove in the 3^rd run of the contest for the Black Bears as he hit a double to left center, bringing home Quinn McDaniel.

Fifth Inning: Scout Knotts made it 4-1 Black Bears as he hit an RBI single to third base, bringing home Quinn McDaniel (2 SB) on the play.

Sixth Inning: Hartford tied up the contest in the top of the frame as Ben Maycock hit an infield single to third base, that the Maine defense threw away, allowing Derek Tenney and Noah Rivera to score. Daniel Burnett followed with an RBI single, scoring Maycock from third.

Jordan Schulefand got the Black Bears back in front as he hit a double off the left field wall, bringing home Connor Goodman.

Edwin Almanzar Jr.'s day came to end in the 7^th inning, as he allowed 5 earned runs, 10 hits, 6 walks and striking out 2.

Eighth Inning: Cobb Jr. tied the contest up at 5-5 as he hit an RBI single to left field, bringing home Derek Tenney.

Trevor LaBonte's day came to an end as he pitched 7 and 1/3 innings, allowing 5 runs (3 earned) on 8 hits, 1 walk and striking out 7.

Jeremiah Jenkins gave the Black Bears the lead back as he hit a single to left field, scoring Quinn McDaniel. Scout Knotts later came around to score after a successful double-steal that was misplayed by the Hawks defense, allowing Knotts to score from third on the play.

Colin Fitzgerald (2-2) picked up the win for the Black Bears, throwing 2/3 of an inning, allowing 2 walks.

Matthew Pushard (7) picked up the save for the Black Bears, coming in relief in the ninth inning, stranding both runners on base as he retired 3 of the 4 batters he faced at the plate, allowing 1 walk and striking out 1.

Robery Chaney (0-3) took the loss for Hartford, throwing 1 and 1/3 innings, allowing 2 runs (1 earned) on 2 hits, 2 walks and striking out 2.

Maine, whose win-streak was extended to 11 games, faces off against the Hawks for game 2 of the weekend series on Saturday, April 30 at 1:00 P.M.
