Men's Hockey Falls in Series Opener Against #14 Boston University

ORONO, Maine -- The University of Maine men's ice hockey team was defeated by the #14 Boston University Terriers, 5-1, on Friday evening in the Alfond Arena.
 
First Goal (1-0 #14 Boston University): While on their first power play opportunity of the evening, Ty Gallagher scored the first goal of the evening for the Terriers. Logan Cockerill set up the scoring play. Halfway through the first period, Maine trailed 1-0.
 
Second Goal (2-0 #14 Boston University): Sam Stevens scored the first goal of the second period for the Terriers. The forward went the length of the ice with the puck, met little resistance, and found the back of the net. Seven minutes into the second frame, Maine trailed by two.
 
Third Goal (3-0 #14 Boston University): While in prime scoring position on the far side, Luke Tuch found Wilmer Skoog for the third BU goal of the night. Skoog was unmarked in front of the Maine net. The deficit was three goals at the halfway mark of the second period.
 
Fourth Goal (4-0 #14 Boston University): Jay O'Brien scored the third goal of the period for Boston University. The third liner scored while on the power play. Wilmer Skoog and Domenick Fensore assisted on the play.
 
Fifth Goal (5-0 #14 Boston University): Skoog, on the breakaway, added a third period goal for his squad.
 
Sixth Goal (5-1 #14 Boston University): On the Black Bears' second power play opportunity of the evening, Ben Poisson scored the first goal of the game for Maine. Lynden Breen found Donavan Villeneuve-Houle who found Poisson. The junior forward popped the bottle and cut into the Terriers' lead.
 
The 5-1 score stood as Maine dropped the first game of the weekend.
 
Notes: Victor Ostman stopped 23 shots for the Black Bears, while Drew Commesso tallied 28 saves for Boston University.
 
Maine went 1 for 2 on its power play opportunity, as the Terriers were 2-5 on its player advantages.
 
The Black Bears blocked 10 shots and won 38 face-offs as a team.
 
Next: The two Hockey East squads complete the final series of the 2021-22 regular season tomorrow night. Puck drop for Saturday is scheduled for 7:30 pm.
