Men's Basketball Takes Down Merrimack College Sunday Afternoon, 50-47

North Andover, MA – The University of Maine men's basketball came away with the victory over Merrimack College on Sunday afternoon, 50-47.
Both sides came out of the gates strong on the defensive end of the floor as the score was tied at 10-10 eight minutes into the contest. Maine forced five turnovers over that course of time.
The Warriors came out of the second media timeout and go on a 11-2 run over the next four minutes to push their lead up to nine points with 7:56 on the clock.
The Black Bears began to slowly chip into the deficit as the half ran down, cutting it to a 3-point game as Kristians Feierbergs hit a layup off of a great feed by Peter Filipovity.
The Warriors led at halftime 26-23.
Peter Filipovity was everywhere for the Black Bears in the opening half as he led all players with 11 points and five rebounds. He also had an assist and a steal.
The Black Bears regained control of the contest as they forced two-straight turnovers leading to a pair of easy layups to grab their first lead since early in the first half.
The Black Bears held onto their slim lead through the conclusion of the second half, grabbing the win 50-47 over the Merrimack Warriors.
Kellen Tynes led the Black Bears in scoring in the winning performance as he had 12 points.
Gedi Juozapaitis finished the contest with 10 points for the Black Bears.
Kristians Feierbergs and Peter Filipovity concluded the contest tied with a team-leading six rebounds apiece.
Maine (6-4) is back in action on Monday, Dec. 19 as they travel to Ohio to take on Akron. That game is scheduled to tip-off at 7:00 P.M. EST.
