Moraga, Calif. -- Sera Hodgson led Black Bears in double-digits with a career-high 22 points as Maine outscored Niagara 22-12 in the fourth quarter to seal a 73-57 win on the final day of the Saint Mary's Thanksgiving Classic.
Hodgson, who hit five of eight from three point range, was joined in double figures by
Caroline Bornemann (12 pts) and Adrianna Smith (11), who each registered double-doubles in the victory with 10 and 11 rebounds, respectively.
Olivia Rockwood added four triples and 14 points while Paula Gallego chipped in 10 points and a career-high six assists.
Maine finished 24-of-45 from the floor (53.3) and 12-of-27 from beyond the arc while dominating the boards with a 39-28 rebounding margin.
Maine put the game out of reach late, closing the game with a 12-2 run to earn the victory.
The Black Bears got their offense going early by way of the three-point shot as the they scored nine of their first 13 points by way of the 3-pointer, including two from Hodgson.
After a 10-0 run by Niagara tied the score, Hodgson continued to her hot shooting on the day. The sophomore knocked down two more triples in the second quarter, giving her four in the first half to go along with a game-high 17 points in the opening 20 minutes.
Maine's lead stood at 33-29 at the break.
Maine pushed the lead to double-digits early in the second half as Bornemann forced a turnover that turned into a transition three-pointer by
Olivia Rockwood.
The two sides began trading buckets as Niagara trimmed their deficit to five points at the end of the third quarter. The Black Bears forced five turnovers in the third period as they shot 44% from the field to increase their halftime lead by two to a 51-45 score after three periods.
Hodgson would set a new career-high of 22 points as Maine pulled back to a double-digit lead at 59-49 with 5:58 left in the fourth quarter.
Maine began to run away with the contest as
Caroline Bornemann and
Olivia Rockwood knocked down three-point shots on back-to-back plays to push the lead to 14 points.
The Black Bears continued their charge. After Niagara closed within six, Maine ended the game with a 12-2 sprint to complete the victory, 73-57.
Maine concludes its west coast trip when it takes on Gonzaga on Monday at 9 p.m. ET.
