Kellen Tynes and Jaden Clayton Earn America East Weekly Honors

Tynes has been Named Player of the Week, Clayton Named Rookie of the Week

Orono, ME - The America East Conference announced on Monday morning that University of Maine Guards, Kellen Tynes and Jaden Clayton, has been named the Conferences Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively.

Tynes, a native of Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, had a great week in the backcourt for the Black Bears. He began the week with a double-double (17 pts, 10 reb) with five assists, two steals and a block as Maine took down ACC opponent Boston College, 69-64. He followed up his great performance with a career-best 21 points in the victory over Columbia. He grabbed three boards, dished out a pair of assists, swiped four steals and had a pair of blocks in the 93-70 victory.

For the week, Tynes averaged 19.0 points, 6.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 3.0 steals and 1.5 blocks.

Clayton, a native of Whitby, Canada, has made a dynamic pairing with Tynes with the backcourt for Maine to begin the season. Clayton began his week with a six point, four rebound and two assist performance in the victory over Boston College. His offense came alive in the following victory over Columbia, where he shot six of nine from the field, a perfect two of two from both the 3-point line and the free throw line, which was good for a career-best 16 points. He also matched his career-high with seven assists, set a new career-high with five rebounds and he picked up a steal. Clayton never committed a turnover in the 93-70 victory over Columbia, his second contest of the year with seven plus assists and no turnovers.

For the week, Clayton averaged 11.0 points, 4.5 rebounds and 4.5 assists.

Maine, who is off to their best start since 2013-14 at a 3-1 record, has their eyes set on Central Connecticut State University of Wednesday, Nov. 23. That game is scheduled to tip off at 3:30 P.M.
