PREVIEW: Men's Basketball Hosts Binghamton

ORONO, ME -- The University of Maine men's basketball team continues their conference action as the Binghamton Bearcats head to the Cross Insurance Center for a matchup on Sunday, Jan. 16.

Sunday's game will be broadcast live on the ESPN 3. The game can also be heard worldwide on the Black Bears Sports Network and locally in Maine on 92.9 FM.

A LOOK AT THE BLACK BEARS:

The Black Bears hed to New Hampshire following a loss at Stony Brook, 80-72. 

The Black Bears have started conference play 0-2, but the player to watch out for for the Black Bears is Sam Ihekwoaba. Coming off of his second straight America East Rookie of the Week award, Ihekwoaba is averaging 20 PPG and 8 Reb in his first two conference games. He dropped a career high 22 at Stony Brook back on Saturday, Jan. 8.

Ja'Shonte Wright-McLeish and Maks Klanjscek are another pair of Black Bears coming off of career highs in scoring at Stony Brook. Wright-McLeish dropped 15, while Klanjscek supplied 13 in the losing effort.

A LOOK AT BINGHAMTON

The Bearcats head to the Cross Insurance Center following a 67-56 defeat against NJIT. Jacob Falko lead his squad with 11 points in the contest. 

Falko also comes in tied for first on his team in scoring per game, averaging 10.7 per contest. He is tied with teammate Tyler Bertam. Kellen Amos (10.2 PPG) caps off the three leading scorers for the Bearcats.

The 3PT shot has been the driving point early on for the Bearcats, as they are shooting an impressive 37% from deep, which is good for second in America East and 46th in the country.

HISTORY AGAINST BINGHAMTON

The Black Bears face their conference rival for the 39th time on Sunday, with the two sides looking to gain an edge in the all time matchup, with a record of 18-18 against eachother. The last time these two teams met came back on Feb. 2, 2020, where the Black Bears came away with the victory, 82-75. Steph Ingo (4pts, 4reb) and Ja'Shonte Wright-Mcleish (4pts) contributed in the winning effort. Binghamton was led in scoring by Richard Caldwell Jr. (20pts) in their losing effort.
