ORONO, Maine -- The University of Maine women's soccer team was defeated by NJIT, 1-0, on Sunday afternoon at Lubetkin Field on the campus of NJIT.

The newly minted conference rivals played to a scoreless first half.
Kira Kutzinski saved the only Highlander shot she faced.

First Goal (NJIT 1-0): Christine Conaghy made her way through the Maine defense and scored the first goal of the conference match-up. The Highlanders flirted with an off-sides call but toed the line enough to receive a 'good goal' call. Maine trailed by one goal 10 minutes into the second half.

The 1-0 lead stood for NJIT as they held onto the advantage to knock off the Black Bears, 1-0.

Maine recorded seven total shots to NJIT's 14 while the Black Bears recorded one corner kick.

Delaney LaBonte recorded the shots on goal for Maine.

Kira Kutzinski turned away four shots during the road conference contest.

Next: The Black Bears are back on the pitch next Thursday, September 30th against Vermont. The conference bout is scheduled to kick-off at 7:00 pm.
