ORONO, Maine -- The University of Maine women's soccer team was defeated by UMBC, 1-0, on Sunday afternoon at the Mahaney Diamond.

First Goal (UMBC 1-0): Izzy Binko played a ball into the box that found the foot of her teammate, Grace Harvey. The latter found the back of the net and gave the Retrievers a 1-0 lead. The advantage stood as the two squads made their way into the half.

The lone first half goal eventually became the only goal of the America East opener. The goaltenders posted second half shutouts, as UMBC held onto the 1-0 lead for their first conference victory of the short season.

Maine recorded nine shots on goal to UMBC's five while also winning the corner kick battle 6-2.

Susannah Gaines all recorded shots on net.

Kira Kutzinski turned away five shots during the fourth home game of the season.
