ORONO - The University of Maine baseball program endured a Friday doubleheader sweep at the hands of UAlbany, dropping 3-0 and 9-3 contests at Mahaney Diamond.
Game one featured seven scoreless innings, forcing an extra inning that saw UAlbany finally reach the scoreboard with three runs to put them over the edge.
Nicholas Sinacola was dazzling almost the entire contest, finally getting into trouble after completing seven shutout innings and staying in the game into the eighth inning.
Sinacola struck out 14 in eight total innings, and assumedly finishes the regular season with 128 strikeouts in 72.1 innings. During Friday's contest, he surpassed Nick Tropeano of Stony Brook who struck out 119 during the 2011 season before being drafted in the fifth round of the MLB Draft that year.
Game two saw the Bears start off with the requisite energy, as Maine picked up two first-inning runs to take a 2-0 lead. It was all zeroes from there however, until Quinn McDaniel solo shot in the bottom of the ninth inning, and UAlbany posted nine on their way to victory.
Maine falls to 14-17 in the conference and sees their playoff chances slim down with the pair of losses. They'll get back to work on Saturday at 11:00am for two more with the Danes.
