Lowell, Mass. --
Samuel Mills set a new Maine school-record in the two-mile run, placing second in a record-setting time of 9:16.60 on Saturday afternoon at the George Davis Invitational, hosted by UMass Lowell.
Mills was followed closely in the event by
Luke Marsanskis who took third at 9:23.56.
Branden Kuusela captured an individual victory for the Black Bears, winning the 400m hurdles at 54.97.
Michael O'Clair joined Kuusela on the podium in the event after taking third at 56.53.
Lewis Roebuck led the way in the throws for Maine with a runner-up performance in the hammer at 54.43m.
Nathan Holst-Grubbe placed fifth in the event with a throw of 51.43m.
Sebastian Osborne added a sixth place finish in the discus at 41.98m.
Joshua Bradford added a third place finish in the shot put with a mark of 14.84m.
Kyle Jacques (6.74m) and
Ben Cotton (6.67m) placed fourth and fifth, respectively, in the long jump. Cotton added a seventh place finish in the 100m at 11.29.
Isaiah Allen finished fourth in the javelin with a toss of 57.46m while
Owen Mild also tallied a fourth place showing with a time of 51.02 in the 400m.
Camden Cleathero finished fifth in the high jump with a leap of 1.83m and placed 10th in the 100m with a time of 11.36.
Thomas Neary finished sixth in the triple jump at 12.48m while Alex Troxell added a seventh place showing in the 1500m at 4:02.44.
Zachary Beaton was Maine's top finisher in the 100m hurdles with a final time of 16.61.
James Olivier turned in a ninth place tally in the 800m with a final time of 157.56.
Maine's team of
Ralph Cruz, Cotton, Dominick Lizzotte, and Jacques took third in the 4x100m relay with a time of 43.85. Cleathero,
Owen Mild, O'Clair, and Kuusela finished fourth in the 4x400m, crossing the line at 3:27.38.
The Black Bears are back in action on April 24 when they travel to UNH for a final warmup before the America East Championships, set for May 1-2.
