Men's Hockey Outlasted by UConn in Series Finale

STORRS, Conn. -- The University of Maine men's ice hockey team was defeated by the UConn Huskies, 4-2, on Saturday night in the Freitas Ice Forum.

First Goal (1-0 UConn): Carter Berger found the back of the net for the first time this season 14:43 into the first period. With traffic in front of Victor Ostman, the forward's shot found its way past the freshman netminder. Maine trailed by a goal early into the Hockey East contest.

Second Goal (2-0 UConn): The Huskies scored their second goal from the blue line when Adam Karashink lit the lamp. Once again, UConn took away Ostman's eyes. Yan Kuznetsov was credited with an assist on their second goal of the afternoon.

Third Goal (2-1 UConn): While on a 5-on-3 power play, Adam Dawe scored the Black Bears first goal of the night. Jakub Sirota found Dawe, who was waiting for the pass. The junior forward made quick work of his opportunity and pulled his squad to within one.

Fourth Goal (2-2): 1:30 of game play later, Dawe scored his second power play goal of the period. After the Huskies pushed the net off its posts, the forward did the smart play and continued the play. Since he was in possession of the puck when the net was knocked off, Dawe was allowed to finish the play. That he did and tied the game heading into the second period.

Fifth Goal (3-2 UConn): After tripping was called on the Black Bears, Ryan Tverberg scored a very late goal for the Huskies. It would ultimately become the game winning goal for the Huskies.

Sixth Goal (4-2 UConn): Mark Gatcomb scored an empty net goal with one second left in the Hockey East contest. The Huskies would win the series finale, 4-2.

Notes: Victor Ostman stopped 43 shots for the Black Bears, while Tomas Vomacka tallied 24 saves for UConn.

Maine went 2 for 3 on their power play opportunities, as the Huskies were 1-5 on its player advantages.
