Maine opens season at Virginia Tech, falls 82-47

Box Score BLACKSBURG, Va. - The University of Maine men's basketball returned to the hardwood to begin the 2021-22 season on Tuesday night, falling to the Virginia Tech Hokies by an 82-47 final score.

Maine came out cold offensively, going just 3-15 from the field to begin the contest. Conversely, the Hokies went 11-15 to open up a 27-9 deficit, a disparity that the Black Bears never recovered from.

Freshman Kristians Feierbergs provided nine points, four rebounds, two assists, and a steal and classmate Byron Ireland matched his nine points alongside two assists and two steals in their Black Bear debuts.

The Black Bears return to the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor for their next contest, the first game at the Cross since February 29, 2020. They'll compete against the University of Maine Farmington Friday evening with a 5:00 tip-off.
