Donavan Villeneuve-Houle Scores Two in OT Loss Against UConn

ORONO, Maine -- The University of Maine men's ice hockey team was defeated by the University Connecticut Huskies, 3-2, on Saturday evening in Alfond Arena.
 
First Goal (1-0 UConn): As the Huskies' power play ended, they took a one goal lead. One second after the Black Bears left the box, Ryan Tverberg found the back of the net. Jack Quinlivan tried to clear the puck but Hudson Schandor kept the puck in the zone. The UConn third line scored the lone goal of the first period.
 
Second Goal (1-1): 1:27 into the second period, Donavan Villeneuve-Houle scored his first career goal. The sophomore was assisted by Keenan Suthers and John Mulera on the Black Bears' first goal of the evening. It would not be the last time Maine's top line found the back of the net.
 
Third Goal (2-1 UConn): Harrison Rees grabbed another short lived lead for the Huskies. The defenseman fired a shot that found its way through the Maine defense into the net. UConn's lead would not stand for long.
 
Fourth Goal (2-2): 00:33 of game play later, Houle scored his second career goal. Suthers and Mulera set up the sophomore forward for an assist tally. Halfway through the second period, Maine's top line had a total of six points and evened the contest at two goals apiece.
 
Fifth Goal (3-2 UConn): In the final seconds of overtime, Rees scored his second goal of the night. Marc Gatcomb's shot was saved by Victor Ostman. The rebound found its way to Rees who won the game for the Huskies.
 
Notes: Donavan Villeneuve-Houle scored the two Black Bear goals, the first two of his career. John Mulera and Keenan Suthers assisted on both of the goals.
 
Victor Ostman stopped 41 shots for the Black Bears, while Darion Hanson tallied 23 saves for UConn.
 
Maine went 0 for 2 on their power play opportunities, as the Huskies were 0-3 on its player advantages.
 
The Black Bears blocked 14 shots and won 24 face-offs as a team.
 
Next: Maine is back on the ice next Friday, November 12 against Merrimack. Puck drop in the Alfond is scheduled for 7:05 pm.
