BOSTON – After tossing a no-hitter against UMass last week, the America East announced on Tuesday afternoon that Nick Silva was named the conference's Pitcher of the Week. The Miami native allowed just five baserunners on the day, with Minutemen reaching base on walks (2), an error (1), a hit-by-pitch (1) and fielder's choice (1).
Â
Silva struck-out two in the seven-inning contest, forcing 12 flyouts and seven groundouts for the 21-out complete game performance. He allowed just one earned run that crossed home plate on a squeeze play in the fifth inning.

With Maine trailing 1-0 entering the home half of the seventh, freshman Ryan Turenne belted a pinch-hit, walk-off grand slam to lift the Black Bears to a 4-1 victory in game one of the series and gave Silva his third win of the season.
Â
The honor is Silva's third America East weekly honor of the season, and Maine's fourth pitcher of the week over the course of the last five weeks. Silva previously earned the honor on March 26 and April 9. Cody Laweryson was tabbed the conference pitcher of the week last week after striking out eight UML batters in seven scoreless frames.
Â
In starts where Silva has earned America East Pitcher of the Week, the right-hander has posted a 0.77 ERA, allowing just nine hits in 23.1 innings. In those games, he's allowed just two earned runs and one extra-base hit, with opponents batting .122 against him in that span. He now has six career AE Pitcher of the Week honors.Â
Â
In five starts since entering conference play on March 24, Silva owns a 3.14 ERA, allowing the opposition to hit just .194 against him.
Â
Silva and the rest of the Black Bears will return to America East play this weekend, traveling to UAlbany for a three-game weekend series in the Empire State capital. First pitch is scheduled for noon on Saturday's doubleheader and Sunday's single game finale against the Great Danes.
