Women's Soccer Announces 2019 Recruiting Class

ORONO, Maine – The University of Maine women's soccer team, Head Coach Scott Atherley, and his staff have announced their 2019 recruiting class in Maria Low, Hannah Niles, and Emma Forgues.
 
"We are excited to add Maria, Hannah and Emma to our family and team.  They will be joining a strong nucleus of returning players and will be the beneficiaries of experienced leadership" was what Coach Atherley had to say about the incoming 2019 class.   
 
Maria Low Midfield | 5-5 | Brewer, Maine (Brewer High School)
Low joins the Black Bears after scoring an all-time school record goals at Brewer High School of 54. Low played as a midfielder where she was captain for three years (2017-2019). The Brewer, Maine native was a member of the Northern Maine All Star team from 2016-2018, the All-State team in 2017 and 2018, and won All-New England/ All-Region honors in 2018. Low also participated in her high school track team where she holds the sophomore record for the 400m.
 
Coach Atherley on Maria, "Maria's natural athletic qualities enhance her effectiveness as a striker.  She is quick, aggressive and fast.  Maria scored a number of goals at the high school level and we look forward to her prowess translating to the collegiate level.  She will provide quality depth along our front line."
 
Hannah Niles Midfield | 5-6 | Saco, Maine (Thornton Academy)
Niles, a midfielder, finished her high school career with 38 goals and 14 assists, winning the US Club NH State championship in 2015, 2017, and 2018. Out of her many accomplishments throughout high school, Niles was part of the Portland press Herald Players to watch list from 2016-2018. P of the SMAA All conference team from 2015-2018, the Saco, Maine native led Thornton Academy in goals in 2015, 2017, 2018.
 
"I have followed Hannah's development for a long time.  What excites me most about her potential is the fact that she is competitive and determined" Head Coach Atherley stated. He went on to say, "Hannah is a good communicator and leader at the back.  She is also a sound 1v1 defender.  I look forward watching Hannah develop her talents."
 
 
Emma Forgues Midfield | 5-6 | Gorham, Maine (Gorham High School)
Forgues played four years of varsity soccer while being a captain for each of those four years. Forgues finished her high school career with 54 goals scored. While being at Gorham High School, her soccer team was the high school state runner ups in 2015 and 2016. The Gorham, Maine native was named Gorham High School's team MVP in 2017 and 2018, as well as Southern Maine first team in 2016, 2017, and 2018.
 
Coach Atherley was quoted saying, "Emma is a versatile player.  She is technically sound and naturally athletic.  The more we see Emma play, we recognize that she can play a number of positions at our level. She has terrific potential"
