MAINE GAME NOTES
  • The University of Maine men's basketball team fell in yet another road contest on Sunday afternoon, as the Huskies of the University of Connecticut handed the Black Bears a 64-40 final score at the XL Center in Hartford.
  • Redshirt freshman Stephane Ingo put together his best defensive effort of the season, recording a game- and career-high five blocked shots on the day. He's the first Black Bear to reach the five-block mark since Mike Allison did it in January of 2013. He now sits third in the America East conference in both total blocks (10) and blocks per game (1.7).
  • Andrew Fleming characteristically filled up the box score with a team-high 19 points and nine boards, along with three blocks and two steals.
  • Nedeljko Prijovic pulled down eight more rebounds, he's averaging a team-high 7.1 boards a game this year. Agah Kizilkaya recorded a pair of steals and an assist in his first career start.
  • Maine swatted nine shots as a team, their highest total since matching the number in a February 24th contest against UAlbany during the 2017-18 season.
  • A key to Maine's demise on Sunday was the turnover battle, with Maine recording 28 on the day that the Huskies utilized directly for 28 points. That's the most in a game for Maine since they had 27 during the 2015-16 season.
  • The Black Bears enter this week ranked 10th in the nation by ESPN and 8th by KenPom.com in strength of schedule across all of Division I men's basketball. Vermont is the next highest-ranked America East team in each ranking, coming in at 42nd on ESPN and 86th on KenPom.com.
A LOOK AT THE HUSKIES
  • Northeastern enters the action at an even 4-4 on the season so far, including an 84-79 victory over common-opponent Harvard on November 8th. Maine fell to Harvard by a 67-46 final score two days later.
  • The Huskies lead the Colonial Athletic Association in all three shooting percentages, posting a 51.1/44.5/80.6 line so far.
  • Redshirt senior Jordan Roland is the end-all, be-all for the Huskies offense, leading the team and the conference with 24.8 points per game, the only member of the Northeastern roster averaging double-digit scoring so far. He's posting a blistering 55.3/46.7/89.5 line, third in the conference in all three marks.
  • Senior Bolden Brace leads the team in rebounding at 6.0 per, and Tyson Walker has 3.1 assists per game to lead the distributors.
  • Reigning CAA Coach of the Year Bill Coen enters his 14th season as head coach of the Northeastern basketball program in 2019-20. Coen had amassed 224 career wins in 13 seasons at Northeastern and ranks third on the CAA's list of all-time winningest coaches with 152 wins in conference regular season and tournament play. He is the lone current CAA coach to have cracked the top 10.
