Black Bears Stumble in Second Half, Fall at Dartmouth

Saar leads Maine with 10 points

Hanover, N.H. -- The Black Bears, who led by as many as 11, carried a 32-19 lead into the half at Dartmouth. However, the Big Green would outscore Maine 28-9 in the second half, defeating visiting Maine 57-41 in a Tuesday matinee at Leede Arena.

Dor Saar finished in double-digits for the 31st time in her career, leading the way for Maine with 10 points. Anne Simon (9) and Kira Barra (8) added 17 points off the bench, each matching career-highs in rebounding at six and five, respectively.

It was a tale of two halves for the Black Bears who went 12-for-23 from the floor over the first 20-minutes before shooting 3-of-26 in the second half.

Dartmouth featured three scorers in double-figures, led by Annie McKenna's  game-high 18 points.

The contest, which featured 37 total turnovers, saw Maine outscore Dartmouth 12-1 in transition points but struggle with a 21-12 margin, in favor of Dartmouth, in points off turnovers.

Simon's layup late in the first quarter gave the Black Bears a three-point cushion heading into the second.

After Dartmouth cut the lead to one with 4:57 left in the half, Maine put together a 10-0 run to take its largest lead of the contest.

Back-to-back buckets from Barra started the sprint before Saar forced a steal before finding Maeve Carroll in transition for the bucket and the foul. Carroll would complete the three-point play before Barr's quick outlet up court found Simon for a triple. The bucket gave the Black Bears a 32-21 lead with 2:33 on the clock.

Dartmouth closed the second quarter with an 8-0 run before outscoring the Black Bears 15-5 in the third period to bring a 44-37 lead into the fourth.

Maine was unable to buy a bucket in the fourth quarter after shooting 1-for-13 from the floor in the 10-minute span. A late bucket from Anna Kahelin cut the deficit to nine but Dartmouth would close the game on a 7-0 run, securing the 57-41 victory.
