Maeve Carroll matched her career-high with 14 points as the Black Bears dropped a 78-49 decision to Dayton on the final day of the Gulf Coast Showcase.
Carroll, who tallied nine of her team-high 14 points in the second quarter, has now featured double-figure scoring outputs in three of her last four outings. Carroll was joined in double-digits by
Dor Saar who compiled 13 points with a trio of 3-point field goals.
The Black Bears finished 19-of-52 from the floor (37%) with a 7-for-25 showing from 3-point range. Dayton was efficient from the field, turning in a 55-percent shooting mark, including a 7-for-15 mark from downtown. Dayton handled the rebounding advantage, 32-21, outscoring Maine 32-18 in the paint.
Dayton got off to a quick start offensively, using a 14-2 run to take a 25-5 lead after one quarter on the final day of the Gulf Coast Showcase. The Flyers shot 58-percent from the floor in the opening 10-minutes while Maine certainly had its looks, but went just 2-of-14 in the opening period.

Maine's offense settled in during the second quarter. The Black Bears would hit 8-of-15 from the field in the period, including nine points from Carroll. Maine knocked down seven consecutive buckets as part of a 5-0 run to trim the deficit to 34-19 midway through the second.

Dayton ended the half strong to enter the break with a 40-23 advantage.
After a trey from Saar cut the Dayton lead to 16 in the third, the Flyers put together a 10-0 run, stretching the advantage to 57-31 midway through the period.

Neither team was able to score through the first two minutes of the fourth before a Dayton free throw extended its lead to 28.

Maine continued to fight, staging a 5-0 run on another triple by Saar followed by a layup by
Anna Kahelin.

However, Maine was unable to close the gap, dropping the weekend finale by a 78-49 final.
