Men's Hockey Stumbles in Final Night at #13/#14 Northeastern, 3-2

BOSTON, Massachusetts -- The University of Maine men's ice hockey team was defeated by #13/#14 Northeastern, 3-2, on Saturday night in the Matthews Arena.

First Goal (#13/#14 Northeastern 1-0): Jayden Struble scored his first goal of the year late in the first period. Blocked by a group of players in front of the net, Jeremy Swayman was unable to see the shot. The freshman let go of the puck at the blue line and gave his squad an early 1-0 lead.

Second Goal (1-1): Mitchell Fossier tied the game with just under six minutes left in the second period. Adrien Bisson and the captain played a game of pass until Fossier fired a shot that founds it way through Craig Pantano.

Third Goal (Maine 2-1): With their fourth power play just beginning, Adam Dawe cleaned up a Fossier shot to give the Black Bears a 2-1 lead with two minutes left in the second. The sophomore forward was left unmarked next to the Northeastern goal and did not waste his wide open opportunity.

Fourth Goal (2-2): From a very difficult angle, Neil Shea tied the game only four minutes into the third period. The freshman forward managed to bounce the puck off Swayman's back and into the Maine net. With 15:44 left in the Hockey East contest, the rivals were tied at two goals apiece.

Fifth Goal (#13/#14 Northeastern 3-2): Zach Solow redirected a Ryan Shea to give the Huskies a late lead. The forward was left alone in front of an open Maine net and did the rest. It would eventually become the game winning tally.

Notes: Jeremy Swayman finished with 38 saves, while Craig Pantano tallied 26 for Northeastern.

Maine went 1-5 on the power play, as the Huskies were 0-5 on their man advantages.

The Black Bears blocked 12 shots as a team.

Next: Maine will return to the ice next Friday, November 29th at St. Lawrence. Puck drop for the non-conference game is scheduled for 7:30 pm.
