Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's Soccer Falls to Binghamton, 1-0

BINGHAMTON, New York - On a wet and rainy Sunday morning, the University of Maine women's soccer team was defeated by the Binghamton University Bearcats, 1-0.

The Bearcats (7-4-2, 2-1 AE) took an early 1-0 lead after Genna Michitti found the back of the net at the 16:12 mark. Kayla Saager switched fields at the right time, which provided Michitti with an open goal opportunity. The forward did the rest and gave her squad the advantage.

Annalena Kriebisch and her defense would keep the deficit to a single goal for the rest of the first half. The Black Bears' (5-5-1, 1-2 AE) best chance came from a corner kick. With Maine forwards in scoring position, Binghamton turned away the attempt and held onto their 1-0 lead.

The second half reflected most of what happened during the first 45 minutes of play. UMaine's offense could not break through the Bearcats' defense. Corner kicks provided the best chances for the Black Bears, but they struggled to find any open space. The wet playing conditions neutralized both team's offensive attacks for the majority of the competition.

Kriebisch kept a clean sheet after the break. The UMaine goalie made two brilliant saves for her team. Each save was made against an unmarked Binghamton forward. Although the defense stood tall for the final 70 minutes of the game, the Bearcats' 1-0 lead was enough to defeat the Black Bears.

Shots/Keepers
The Bearcats held an 6-to-2 advantage in shots on goal, while also winning the corner kick battle, 4-2.

Keeper Kriebisch made five saves in goal for UMaine, while her Binghamton counterpart, Haylee Poltorak, made two.
