ORONO, Maine - On a wet and rainy Thursday evening, the University of Maine women's soccer team was defeated by the University of Hartford Hawks, 1-0. The lone goal came in the opening minutes of the second half.
Â
The majority of the first half was played at midfield. Conference match-ups are highly contested, and the opening 45 minutes were status quo for America East play.
Annalena Kriebisch denied the three shots she saw, and Maia Perez turned away the two Black Bear shots on goal.
Â
Hartford's best opportunity was when Bridgette Alexander's shot found the post. The forward quickly reversed fields and caught the Maine defense off guard.
Julia Mahoney and
Hannah Bamford each had chances in the opening half but were unable to capitalize on the scoring opportunities.
Â
Hartford ended the stalemate seven minutes into the second half. Gabriela Gamory's sixth goal of the season was also the first of the contest. Her goal was scored at 52:48. Kaila Lozada assisted on the Hawk's goal.
Â
UMaine was unable to counter the visitor's goal. With three shots on goal and one corner kick, the Black Bears could not overcome the Hawk's defense. Hartford would hold onto their 1-0 lead for their league leading 10th victory.
