Women's Soccer Downed by Stony Brook, 3-2

STONY BROOK, N.Y. - The University of Maine women's soccer team was defeated by conference opponent Stony Brook, 3-2, on Sunday afternoon at LaValle Stadium.

The Black Bears scored the first goal of game. Emilie Andersen scored on a wide open net only 6:21 into the opening half. Julia Mahoney forced a turnover at midfield and played the ball up the field. The freshman forward found Andersen, who took advantage of the pass and scored the first goal of the contest.

Stony Brook evened the score with 00:53 remaining in the first half. UMaine's keeper, Annalena Kriebisch, initially made a save. Her save deflected to an unmarked Tatum Kauka. She scored the Seawolves lone goal of the half and evened the score heading into the half.

The Seawolves took the lead early in the second half when Alyssa Francese buried a penalty kick. UMaine was called for a foul in the box, which awarded Stony Brook with the penalty kick and a 2-1 lead.

Julie Johnstonbaugh scored less than 40 seconds after the Francese goal. She gave the home team a 3-1 advantage over UMaine.

Emma Donovan did her best to get some momentum going with her goal at the 87:55 mark. The freshman was alone in front of the Stony Brook net when she received a pass from Priscilla Domingo. The Black Bears trailed 3-2 after the Donovan goal.

The two goals scored by Stony Brook while play was in motion came from a rebound or a scrum in front of the UMaine net. Unfortunately, the 3-2 lead would stand, and the Black Bears would drop their first conference game of the 2018 campaign.

Shots/Keepers
The conference foes both recorded four shots on goal, while the Seawolves won the corner kick battle, 6-1.

Keeper Kriebisch made one save in goal for UMaine, while her Stony Brook counterpart, Sofia Manner, made two.
