TORONTO – On Thursday, Slan Sports Management announced that Mike Allison '13 has re-signed with the Gifu Swoops for its inaugural season in the Japanese B3 League.
Allison spent his first season in Japan last season for Gifu, helping the Swoops earn a promotion to the Japanese B3 League. Before heading to the Land of the Rising Sun, Allison spent three seasons in the National Basketball League of Canada, playing for Island Storm, the Niagara River Lions and the Mississauga Power.
After graduating with a degree in kinesiology from UMaine in 2013, Allison spent his first season overseas with the Durham Wildcats in the British Basketball League. He led the BBL in blocks that season (2.3 per game), while ranking in the top-10 in the league in both rebounding (7.8 RPG) and free throw percentage (81.6 percent).
"I am excited to be rejoining the Gifu Swoops for our inaugural season in the B League," said Allison in a Slan Sports Management release. "I believe we have the talent and teamwork to go far this season and I cannot wait for it to start."
Allison finished his career with the Black Bears ranking fourth all-time in blocks (134) and is 23
rd in program-history in rebounds (516). The Hamilton, Ontario, native was named to the America East All-Defensive Team twice, leading the conference in blocks in both 2011-12 and 2012-13.
