ORONO, Maine – University of Maine men's basketball head coach
Richard Barron is excited to announce the signing of 2018 Mr. Maine Basketball and two-time Maine Gatorade Boys Basketball Player of the Year, Terion Moss. Moss signed his National Letter of Intent on Wednesday morning at Portland High School.
"Terion is a very exciting young player with great athleticism, coordination, and offensive skills," said Barron. "He has terrific change of speed and floor vision as well as a great feel for the game. Terion is a committed student who is very excited to have the opportunity to represent his home state at the University of Maine."
"We appreciate the quality coaching and instruction that he has received by Coach Joe Russo (Portland High School) and Robert Pilsbury (Blue Wave AAU) and we welcome Terion and his family to Black Bear Nation!"
Moss, a 5-10 guard, averaged 19.9 points, 4.0 rebounds, 4.6 assists, and 2.9 steals during his senior season. He led the Bulldogs to an 18-2 record this past winter, and collected Class AA state championships in both the 2015-16 and 2016-17 seasons.
Coach Russo praised Moss on his accomplishments and his attitude during his time at Portland High.
"Terion Moss's four-year career at Portland High School was historical," said Russo. "He helped lead the Bulldogs to three-straight state championship appearances and win back-to-back titles. His senior year, he conceivably won every state and league basketball award. Most of all, he did so with humility and always put the team first. I suspect he will continue to do so at UMaine. He's a student of the game and his passion to excel is second-to-none."
Moss joins current Black Bear
Andrew Fleming, along with UMaine alumni
Garet Beal, Troy Barnies, and Chris Markwood as former Maine Gatorade Players of the Year to play for the Black Bears.
The eligibility of all student-athletes is contingent upon admission to the University of Maine and compliance with all NCAA rules, including registration with the NCAA Eligibility Center.
