Women’s Swimming Completes Day Three of America East Championships

WORCESTER, Mass. – On Saturday, the UMaine women's swimming and diving team competed in day three of the America East Championships at the Sport and Recreation Center on the campus of Worcester Polytechnic Institute.

Entering the final day of competition on Sunday, Maine ranks fifth with 271 points.

Victoria Kingston finished fourth in the 100-yd butterfly (56.25) to highlight the day for the Black Bears. Kate and Emma Pontius swam in the 'B' final, with times of 58.83 and 59.25.

Sabrina Nuttall also earned a fourth place finish, completing the 100-yd backstroke in a time of 1:04.39. Emma Blackdeer's time of 1:08.44 was good enough for 13^th place overall.

In the 'B' final of the 400-yd individual medley, Lynsie Russell (4:31.51) led three Black Bears with a 10^th overall finish. Ines Khiyara (4:37.92) and Caroline Strolic (4:37.96) grabbed 14^th and 15^th in the event.

Juliana McDonald swam the fastest in the 'B' final of the 200-yd freestyle, registering a time of 1:54.76. Megan McGillivray also earned a ninth place finish, finishing the 100-yd backstroke in a time of 57.81. Emily Borger (58.17) and Emma Blair (58.64) followed McGillivray followed immediately after in 10^th and place.

The women wrapped up the day with the 400-yd medley relay, as the tandem of McGillivray Nuttall, Kingston, and McDonald finished fifth in a time of 3:50.64.

New Hampshire leads all teams with 554 points, followed by UMBC with 539.5. Vermont follows in third place (450 points), while Binghamton ranks fourth with 339.5 points. The Virginia Military Institute rounds out the competing teams with 105 total points.

Maine begins the final day of competition tomorrow, with the prelims beginning at 10:00 a.m., followed by the finals at 5:30 p.m. Fans can watch all four days of the America East Championships on AmericaEast.TV. Follow @MaineSwimming on Twitter for the latest updates.
