Women’s Swimming Breaks 400 Freestyle Relay Record in Final Day of America East Championships

WORCESTER, Mass. – Led by a record-breaking performance in the 400-yd Freestyle Relay, the UMaine women's swimming team wrapped up the America East Championships on Sunday night at the Sport and Recreation Center on campus of Worcester Polytechnic Institute.

The Black Bears finished the America East Championships in fifth place, earning a total of 402 points.

The relay team of Emily Borger, Juliana McDonald, Rita Chen, and Emma Blair capped the America East Championships with a school-record breaking swim in the 400-yd freestyle relay. The squad's time of 3:28.13, broke the previous best time of 3:28.31. The time earned the Black Bears a fourth place finish in the final women's event of the evening.

A total of three Black Bears swam in the 100-yd freestyle, with all three placing in the top-eight. Juliana McDonald (51.78) led the team with a fifth place finish. Emily Borger recorded a time of 52:05 for seventh, while Emma Blair (52.12) rounded out the squad with a eighth place finish.

In the 200-yd backstroke, Lynsie Russell earned a sixth overall finish, recording a time of 2:02.93. Megan McGillivray (2:07.84) and Rita Chen (2:08.66) also swam in the event, placing 14^th and 17^th.

Four Black Bears swam in the 1650-yd freestyle, led by Emily Lund's (17:36.53) ninth place finish. Shayla Rose Kleisinger (17:39.74) followed in 10^th place, while Beatrix Lavigeur (18:05.05) took 14^th. Chloe Adams rounded out the Maine swimmers with a time of 18:59.14 for 16^th.

Sabrina Nuttall (2:23.15), Caroline Strolic (2:23.59), Emma Blackdeer (2:26.51), and Ines Khiyara (2:26.76) all competed in the 200-yd breaststroke, as Nuttall snagged ninth, Strolic took 10^th, Blackdeer earned 12^th and Khiyara took 13^th.

New Hampshire took home first, with 794 points, while runner-ups UMBC earned 789.5 points. Vermont's 652 points was good enough for third. Binghamton placed fourth, totaling 485.5. The Virginia Military Institute finished in the sixth position with 132 points.
