Jim Boylen ’87 Named Head Coach of Chicago Bulls

CHICAGO – Following Fred Hoiberg being relieved of head coaching duties, the Chicago Bulls announced on Monday that Jim Boylen '87 has been promoted from associate head coach to head coach, effective immediately.
 
Boylen had been the associate head coach for the Bulls since 2015. Prior to the Windy City, he was an assistant coach for the San Antonio Spurs (2013-15), Indiana Pacers.
 
He was the head coach for the University of Utes from 2007 to 2011, leading the Utes to a 69-60 record. Prior to his stop in Salt Lake City, Boylen was also an assistant coach at Michigan State (2005-07, 1987-1992), the Milwaukee Bucks (2004-05), the Golden State Warriors (2003-04) and the Houston Rockets (1992-2003).
 
Boylen, who ranks second all-time in Maine program history in points in a season (592 pts.) which he set as a senior during the 1986-87 campaign. He also ranks in the top-10 in program history in career assists (370) and career steals (186).
 
He joins Rick Carlisle (Dallas Mavericks), who attended UMaine from 1979-1981 and Steve Clifford (Charlotte Hornets), who graduated from UMaine-Farmington in 1983 as former University of Maine system student-athletes that are now head coaches in the NBA.
