ORONO, Maine – The University of Maine men's basketball team looks to end its west coast trip on a high-note, when the Black Bears head to the Golden State to play the San Francisco Dons on Saturday afternoon at the Sobrato Center. Tip-off is slated for 2:00 pm PT / 5:00 pm ET.
LAST TIME OUT: The Black Bears (0-2) played Pac-12 opponent Utah tough in their last contest on Friday night, falling 75-61.
Isaiah White drained 9-of-17 field goal attempts on the evening for a game and career-high 24 points. Freshman
Terion Moss recorded 13 points, including 12 points on four 3-pointers in the second half alone.
Vilgot Larsson added nine points, along with collecting a team-high seven rebounds for the Black Bears. Maine came back within single digits on three different occaions on the second-half, but the Utes held on to win.
THE SERIES: Maine and San Francisco in the 1992-93 season, as the Dons edged the Black Bears 70-68 in California. Maine was led in scoring by Dan Hillman, who shot 10-for-16 for 25 points, while collecting 13 rebounds in a double-double performance. Francois Bouchard (19 points, 8-for-13 FG) and Deonte Hursey (10 pts, 4-for-8 FG) also tallied double-figures. The Dons were led offensively by Tomas Thompson, who registered 28 points in 27 minutes. Maine led at halftime 35-30, and held a 19 point lead with 13:20 remaining, but the Dons closed the game on a 34-13 run to escape with a victory.
SCOUTING THE DONS: USF opened the season on Tuesday against UC Davis, routing the Aggies 76-42 at The Pavilion. The balanced Dons' offense had three double-figure scorers led by Charles Minlend (16 pts) and Jordan Ratinho (14 pts). The Dons shot an impressive 58 percent from the field in the first half to take a 46-26 lead after 20 minutes. On the glass, USF dominated by a mark of 43-28. Last season San Francisco went 22-17, defeating Pacific in the opening round, but fell to Gonzaga in the WCC Tournament semifinals to end its season. The Dons qualified for the CBI, downing Colgate, Utah Valley and Campbell before taking on North Texas in the CBI finals. USF earned the win in game one of the three game series, but the Mean Green won both on their home floor to win the CBI.
WHITE HOT: White showed his offensive prowess against the Utes on Thursday night, draining a career-high 24 points. He shot 52 percent from the floor and exactly 50 percent from long distance.
THE MOSSIAH: In just his second collegiate game, Moss showed why he is a two-time Maine Gatorade Player of the Year and 2018 Mr. Maine Basketball. In the second-half alone, Terion sunk four of his six 3-point attempts leading the Black Bears offensively in the final 20 minutes. The Portland native is just behind White in field goals made this season.
UP NEXT: After playing three games in five days, the Black Bears will be off from game-action for a week, returning to action on Saturday Nov. 17 against ACC foe NC State.
