ORONO, Maine – In its second game of the Wolfpack Classic, the University of Maine men's basketball team travels to Denton, Texas to take on the University of North Texas on Tuesday night. The opening tip at the Super Pit is slated for an 8:00 p.m. ET start.
The matchup between the Black Bears (0-4) and the Mean Green (6-0) will be broadcasted on C-USA.TV.
The Black Bears (0-4) seek their first win of the season, after falling to ACC foe NC State 82-63 in their most recent contest on Saturday afternoon. The Black Bears have faced a tough slate to start the 2018-19 campaign, which ranks 133 of 351 teams in strength of schedule according to cbssports.com.
The combination of
Andrew Fleming (19 pts, 9-13 FG) and
Terion Moss (13 points, 4-7 FG, 4-6 FT) led the way offensively in Maine's last contest against North Carolina State. The duo combined to shoot an efficient 65 percent (13-20 FG), helping Maine's season-high shooting percentage of 55.3 percent against the Wolfpack. Moss also provided four rebounds, two assists and three steals in 33 minutes of work.
The Mean Green have started the season on an impressive six-game winning streak, posting victories over Angelo State (89-55), Humboldt State (93-48), Portland (78-73), Hawaii (68-51), Texas A&M Commerce (102-55) and Maryland Eastern Shore (68-34). The Mean Green have outscored their opposition by an average of 30.7 points.
Among the 351 teams in Division I, North Texas has tallied the most rebounds (235) and assists (99) through its six games. Four Mean Green players average double-figures in scoring, including Umoja Gibson (18.0 ppg), Zachary Simmons (12.8), Ryan Woolridge (12.5) and Jorden Duffy (11.2 ppg).
Following the meeting against North Texas, the Black Bears close out their six-game road swing to begin the season on Sunday, when Maine takes on Quinnipiac on Sunday afternoon at the People's United Center.
