Women's Soccer Drops 4-0 Decision to UAlbany

ORONO, Maine -- After a scoreless first half, UAlbany tallied three goals in a span of 4:15 midway through the second half as the Great Danes defeated the University of Maine women's soccer team, 4-0, on Sunday afternoon at Mahaney Diamond.

The loss slips the Black Bears to 5-7-1 overall and 1-4-0 in America East action while UAlbany improves to 8-5-2, 2-1-1 in the league.

Neither team was able to find the back of the net in the first half. Maine's best opportunity over the opening 45 minutes came in the 19th minute when Emilie Andersen's header off a corner sailed high over the net. The Black Bears kept the offensive pressure on with a deep drive over the net from Mikayla Morin before Priscilla Domingo rifled a shot just wide.

Maine keeper Annalena Kriebisch came up with the save of the half when she made a point-blank save in the 29th minute.

The two teams would enter the half knotted at 0-0.

UAlbany's Meghan Cavanaugh would break the scoreless tie in the 61st minute with her first of two goals on the afternoon. Caroline Kopp picked up the assist on the first Great Danes' goal as she sent a free kick into the box where Cavanaugh tipped a shot up and over Kriebisch high into the left post.

Just 43-seconds later, Jada Colbert extended the UAlbany lead to 2-0. Cavanaugh began the scoring push as her pass found Colbert who ripped a shot high into the right side of the net.

Cavanaugh found the back of the net again in the 65th minute for her fourth goal of the season. Kopp again received credit for an assist, setting up Cavanaugh who blasted a shot in from 15-yards out.

The Great Danes built a 4-0 lead when Miranda Badovinac deflected a pass to Sami Falkenstein. Falkenstein gathered in the center of the box before beating Krisbisch to the high right corner of the net.

Maine was unable to cut the deficit, ultimately dropping the America East contest by a final of 4-0.

Kriebisch made seven saves in net for the Black Bears but fell to 5-7-1 on the season with the loss. UAlbany keeper, Andrea Leitner made a pair of saves to earn her seventh win of the season.

The Black Bears continue league play on Thursday, Oct. 11 when they travel to take on UMass Lowell at 7 p.m.
