Hartford Sneaks Past Soccer in OT, 2-1

Box Score (PDF)

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – Sophomore Nicole Bailey netted her second career goal to get the Black Bears out of an early deficit and send the team to overtime on Thursday night, but the University of Maine soccer ultimately lost to America East preseason favorite Hartford on a 92nd-minute goal by Gabriela Gamory.

The Hawks opened up the scoring just five minutes into the game but the Black Bears did well to respond and began to ramp up the pressure over the next few minutes, with Bailey ultimately tying the game at 1-1 about 17 minutes after Hartford had opened the scoring.

Annalena Kriebisch kept it a tie game heading into the half with a key save in the 40th-minute. The sophomore fought to see through traffic right in front of the goal and shot out her foot to make a save on a close-range shot.

Both Kriebisch and Hartford's Maia Perez finished with four saves on the night while Hartford held the final edge in corners (3-1), shots (18-6) and shots on goal (6-5).

Goal Recaps
• (Hartford 5'): Kaila Lozada found her way into the box and cut across the top towards the left post before taking a shot that deflected off a body and past Kriebisch.
• (Maine '22): After a ball was sent over the top on the left wing by Emilie Andersen, Bailey sprinted through the Hawks' defense to track the ball down at the top of the box. The sophomore took one look and then took a left-footed shot, slotting the ball inside the far post.
• (Hartford 92') Just over a minute into the first 10 minute overtime period, Gamory took advantage of a scrum in the box to poke the ball into the net for the game-winner.

Notes
• Bailey now has two goals and two assists for a team-high six points.
• Andersen – who earned her first career point on Sept. 24 with an assist – is now on a two-game point-streak with the helper on Bailey's goal.
• Seven players went the full 91 minutes for the Black Bears in Ridley, Kriebisch, Mikayla Morin, Jane Stevens, Olivia Bamford, Amy Falkin, and Emma Cossette.
• The game marked the fourth overtime contest of the year for UMaine, with the Black Bears.

Up Next
• The Black Bears return home on Sunday, Oct. 1 to host UMBC before embarking on a three-game road trip at New Hampshire (Oct. 5), Vermont (Oct. 8) and UAlbany (Oct. 15).
