ORONO, Maine – Senior midfielder Kendra Ridley headed home a corner kick from sophomore Emilie Andersen in the 15th-minute and sophomore goaltender Annalena Kriebisch made four saves to give the University of Maine soccer team a 1-0 win over UMBC on Sunday afternoon at Mahaney Diamond.
 
With the win, the Black Bears moved to 4-6-1 overall and 2-1-0 in America East play while UMBC dropped to 2-6-3 overall and 0-2-0 in league play.
 
Andersen's assist on Ridley's goal – which was her second of the year – now gives her an assist in three-straight games. Ridley finished with two shots on goal for the Black Bears. Freshman Olivia Bamford nearly gave the Black Bears a 2-0 lead in the 40th-minute when she cracked a shot from 25-yards out that nearly found the net if not for a leaping pary from UMBC goaltender Jade Wilkins.
 
Kriebisch's four-save shutout was her fourth of the year and seventh of her career. On the other end of the field, Wilkins made four saves for the Retrievers. Kriebisch and the defense did well to weather 12 UMBC corner kicks, with the best chance at tying the game for the Retrievers coming with an 83rd-minute shot that hit the frame.
 
The Black Bears held the final edge in shots (13-12) and shots on goal (5-4) while UMBC earned an edge in corner kicks (12-6).

• With the winning score, Ridley now has three career goals with all serving as game-winners.

• With the win, the Black Bears moved to 12-3-1 overall in the series with UMBC and bumped the edge in all-time scoring to 27-9.
