ORONO, Maine - With the Hockey East Awards Banquet wrapping up Friday evening, Maine Freshman
Tereza Vanisova was awarded the Hockey East Pro-Ambitions Rookie of the Year award, splitting the honor with Providence's Whitney Dove, making her the first Black Bear skater to win an individual yearly award.
Vanisova (Strakonice, Czech Republic) appeared in 20 conference games during her rookie season, scoring 20 points on 10 goals and 10 assists to rank third in scoring among all league freshmen and good for second on her team. She led all league rookies with 0.50 goals per game in conference and ranked fourth in assists per game with 0.50. Her performance was good enough to average a point per game, which was good for second among all WHEA first-year players. Additionally, Tereza also finished as a top-five freshmen in shots on goals per game (2.80) and goals per shots on goal with .179.
Overall, Vanisova tallied a total of 28 points on 16 goals, 12 assists in her 28 games played this season; she's tied for the most points on the team this season. She had four power play goals on the season, all of them coming in conference games, and two game-winning goals, one in out-of-conference play and one in a Hockey East game. She finishes the season with a +3 overall, +2 in conference.
Vanisova was named Pro Ambitions Rookie on September 26 after the first week of the season and was named the Hockey East Player of the Week on November 14, one of just two first-year skaters to earn the player of the week award this season.
