ORONO, Maine - Two Maine Black Bears have been selected for All-Conference Honors after the final weekend of regular season play. Maine Freshman
Andrew Fleming has earned a spot on the 2016-2017 America East All-Rookie team, while sophomore guard
Ryan Bernstein has been selected to the 2016-17 America East All-Academic team.
Andrew Fleming (South Paris, ME) was just recently awarded his fourth America East Rookie of the Week award, and finished his first regular season as a Maine Black Bear averaging 10.5 points per game, and 6.6 rebounds per game; he leads all active players on the team in those two stats. He averaged 46.5% from the field, and tallied 19 blocks and 18 steals on the season. Fleming missed only five games this season, starting 20 of his 26 appearances. After missing those games due to injury/illness in January, he bounced back strong in the month of February, scoring in double figures in six of Maine's last eight games.
Ryan Bernstein (Bronx, N.Y.) is a consistent contributor for the Black Bears this season on and off the court; he's been a constant conversation piece in the assist/turnover stat category, as he was consistently ranked as one of the top 50 players in the nation in the stat; he finishes the year leading the conference with a 2.8, averaging 3.0 assists per game. He appeared in all 31 of Maine's games this season, starting in 28 of them. His performance on the court, combined with his performance in the class room, gives him his first America East All-Academic award for his career.
Fleming, Bernstein, and the rest of the Black Bears will travel to Burlington, VT on Wednesday March 1st to face the Vermont Catamounts in the first round of the America East Tournament, tip-off at 7pm.
