Men's Basketball Starts off Two-Game Homestand Hosting UMBC on Saturday

The Black Bears look to avenge an 11 point loss to the Retrievers from last month.
ORONO, Maine - The Black Bears return home to the Cross Center for a two-game homestand, starting with welcoming third-place UMBC to the Cross Center, after Maine dropped a Wednesday-night matchup with the conference-best Vermont Catamounts, Maine's 6th loss in a row. On the opposite side UMBC riding a 2-game winning streak against UNH and Binghamton. After Saturday's game, Maine will host Hartford for a Monday evening matchup with the Hawks.
SCOUTING THE BLACK BEARS
Maine is coming off a tough 74-53 loss against Vermont which was a lot closer of a game than the final score indicated, as both teams traded leads several times in the first half, but ultimately Vermont's defensive second half held the Black Bears to only 21 points. Ilia Stojiljkovic tallied a career-high 13 points, along with three rebounds, two assists, and a block, followed by Andrew Fleming who finished with 12 points and two rebounds. Wes Myers finished the game with 10 points, scoring in double digits for the 10th straight game.
Myers leads the team in points per game with 16.7, 21.6 in conference play; he ranks fifth in conference in points per game. Andrew Fleming follows close behind in the scoring column with 9.9 points and 6.5 rebounds per game. Ryan Bernstein is ranked 23rd in the nation in assist-turnover ratio with 2.96, ranked second in conference. He has 77 assists on the season, averaging 3.2 per game. Vincent Eze has started the last 11 games for Maine and has seen his play time and stats steadily increasing. He is averaging 7.4 points and 6.1 rebounds per game in conference play.

The Retrievers enter this matchup with a 6-3 conference record, winning their last two conference games against UNH in double OT, and most recently against Binghamton, a game that saw the Retrievers shooting 56% from the field, routing the Bearcats 92-74. UMBC had four players score in double figures, led by Will Darley who had 22 points, four rebounds, two assists and a block, Jairus Lyles tallied 19 points, along with five rebounds, two assists, and two steals, and Joe Sherburne and Rodney Elliot with 14 points each.
UMBC is led in scoring by Jairus Lyles who currently averages 20.6 points per game, he leads the conference in that stat, and is ranked 25th in the nation. Will Darley is averaging 15.1 points per game, and is second in conference in free-throw percentage with 89.5%. K.J. Maura leads the team in assists per game with 4.4; he's third in conference in that stat, and third in assist/turnover ratio with 2.63. He also leads the conference in steals with 36 total steals.
