Men’s Basketball Ready for Final Preseason Test against Saint Joseph’s College of Maine Sunday

Sunday’s game marks the first and last time to see the Black Bears in The Pit this season
ORONO, Maine – The Maine Black Bears men's basketball team will compete in one final preseason exhibition before opening the 2017-18 season, taking on Saint Joseph's College of Maine on Sunday at 2 p.m. at Memorial Gym. The game marks the last time to watch the Black Bears play on campus this season.
The Black Bears are coming off an 84-63 victory over Husson last Saturday at the Cross Insurance Center. Five Black Bears reached double-figures in scoring, as Isaiah White (17 pts, 7-13 FG, 3-5 3pt., 4 steals, 3 reb.) and Andrew Fleming (13 pts., 4-5 FG, 4-4 FT, 5 reb., 4 assists) led the Black Bears. Ilker recorded a double-double, recording 10 points and brought down 12 rebounds, while Trae Bryant and Aaron Calixte each registered 10 points.
As a team Maine shot nearly 50 percent from the field (31-63), and converted 13 of 14 attempts from the charity strike. The Black Bear defense held the Eagles to shoot just 31.1 percent on field goals. Maine also dominated the paint, outscoring the Eagles 42-16.
Saint Joseph's College of Maine completed the 2016-17 schedule with a 13-13 record, going 10-8 in the GNAC. The Monks ended their season in a 91-83 loss to Mount Ida in the quarterfinals of the conference tournament. The Monks return their top-four returning scorers in Marc Corey (10.8 ppg), Ian Mileikis (10.1 ppg), Quinn Richardson-Newton (9.5 ppg), and Aaron Hall (8.2 ppg.)
Following Sunday's game, Maine will travel to ACC-foe Boston College on Friday, November 10 to open the regular season. The Black Bears face the Eagles in Chestnut Hill, Mass., one day before the Maine's football team travels to Boston to face UMass at Fenway Park.
