Women's Ice Hockey Looking to Set WHEA Attendance Record, Raise Funds for Ashley Wade Foundation

Black Bears host Vermont on Saturday at noon
Orono, Maine -- The University of Maine women's ice hockey team has a mission for Saturday, Dec. 2 when they host Vermont at noon: break the Women's Hockey East Association (WHEA) single-game attendance record all while raising funds for the The Ashley Wade Foundation.
The WHEA single-game attendance record currently stands at 2,136, which was the number of fans in attendance on Feb. 3, 2017 when Vermont hosted New Hampshire.
The goal of breaking the single-game attendance record will help towards another objective, as the Black Bears will also be raising money at the game to benefit The Ashley Wade Foundation.
The mission of The Ashley Wade Foundation, according to the organization's website, is to "enrich the lives of children suffering from chronic illnesses. The Ashley Wade Foundation makes and delivers care packages to children in hospitals or at their homes. Aside from delivering care packages, The Ashley Wade Foundation also holds family fun days for the families in our Superstar Program, and holds hospital parties at various hospitals throughout the year."
Ashley, who started the Foundation in 2012, was a gifted three sport varsity athlete in high school who dreamed of one day playing Division I ice hockey. However, Ashley became sick during her sophomore year in high school and was diagnosed with Crohn's disease at the age of 17.
