LAST TIME OUT: Despite a near even second-half in terms of scoring, the University of Maine Black Bears men's basketball team could not comeback from a steep first half deficit, falling to Texas Tech 83-44 on Tuesday night at United Supermarkets Arena. For the second-straight game, Ilija Stojiljkovic led the Black Bears in scoring and rebounding. The junior forward recorded eight points on an efficient 4-of-6 shooting and brought down five rebounds. Maine trailed early, but Black Bears did not give up and fought hard in the second-half, going toe-to-toe with the Red Raiders. Maine doubled their shooting percentage from the first half to the second, and out-rebounded the Red Raiders by a count of 19-15 in the final 20 minutes. Texas Tech outscored Maine by just three points at 34-31 in the second half.

A LOOK AT SOUTH ALABAMA: The Jaguars come into Saturday's game with a 1-2 record, falling to Texas Tech 75-50 in the opener, before earning their first win of the season in dominating fashion over Mobile by a score of 71-49. On Thursday afternoon, South Alabama came back from a 23-point second-half deficit to come within five points late in game, but ultimately fell to La Salle 81-73 at Tom Gola Arena in Philadelphia. The Jags got back into the game with a 14-0 run with 7:35 left, but could not complete the comeback.  Jordan Andrews is averaging 17.7 points per game in three games this season to lead South Alabama, while Rodrick Sikes averages 11 points off the bench.

ALL-TIME SERIES vs. USA: The Black Bears and Jaguars have met once before in the 2008-09 season, as South Alabama won 71-59 in Mobile, Ala. on November 28, 2008. A high-power first half paced the Jaguars, with South Alabama taking a 40-20 advantage into halftime. Mark Socoby led the Black Bears with an impressive 28 points on 7-15 shooting, including 6-13 from beyond the three-point line.

UP NEXT: Maine will play either Sacred Heart or Saint Peter's on Saturday depending on Friday's outcome. Following the Hoop Hall of Fame Tip-Off Tournament, the Black Bears will host Boston University for Maine's home opener on Nov. 22 in a Wednesday afternoon matinee.
