Women's Hockey Receiving Votes in USCHO.com Poll

ORONO, Maine – After splitting a two-game series with Robert Morris, the University of Maine women's hockey team is receiving votes in the latest USCHO.com Division I Women's Poll, released Monday.
After dropping a close, 2-1, contest on Friday night, UMaine came back to top then-No. 10 RMU, 5-2, on Saturday. It was the second victory over a ranked time this season for the Black Bears, with a 4-2 win over then-No. 9 Quinnipiac on Sept. 30 being the other. UMaine's 4-2 start through the first six games of the season marks the best start for the program since a 4-2 start in 2011-12. This marks the first time since the 2005-06 season that Maine has earned a spot in the USCHO.com poll, with the Black Bears receiving votes in the Feb. 13, 2006 poll.
In Saturday's 5-2 win, Tereza Vanišová recorded two goals and two assists while Brooke Stacey had two goals and one assist. Freshman Loryn Porter stopped 38 shots in her first collegiate start to earn the win
Other Hockey East schools in the poll include No. 3 Boston College, No. 9 Northeastern, RV Providence and RV Merrimack.
The Black Bears open up Hockey East play this weekend, when Boston University visits Alfond Arena on Friday afternoon for a 2 p.m. puck drop.
