Baseball Announces the addition of 16 newcomers this fall

ORONO, Maine -- Maine baseball and head coach Steve Trimper welcomes 16 new faces to Orono this fall.
They include:
Kevin Doody
A 5' 9" 170 pound utility player that attended Bershire Academy. Doody was a 2014 Perfect Game Honorable Mention and a 2014 ESPN Boston Pre-Season All State Watch list. "Kevin brings another element of athleticism to the team. He can play any position on the field well which makes him a very valuable addition," said coach Trimper.
Patrick Jordan
A 6' 0" 180 pound catcher from Reading Memorial High School. "Pat will add depth at the catching position with his strong defensive tools and great leadership skills. Pat also brings some versatility as he has experience in the outfield," says coach Trimper.
Cody Pasic
A 5'11, 190 pound catcher from Miami Dade CC. His accolades include: being selected first team All-Florida and selected as the 2014 Perfect Game Honorable Mention All-American as well as 2014 Second team All-Region. Last season at Miami Dade CC as a Freshman he was selected as the 2015 Starting Catcher for the Florida JUCO All-Star Game. "Chris is a very athletic player that converted to a catcher 2 years ago, after signing with Tennessee to play the outfield," said Trimper. " He is an outstanding runner, and has great skills behind the plate. With the graduation of both Kevin Stypukowski and Jonathan Salcedo this coming year, we felt it was very important to bring a veteran catcher to our team to manage our pitching staff, and bring along a younger catcher to have them gain experience."
Brandon Vicens
A 6'0, 205 pound outfielder also from Miami Dade CC. Vicens was drafted in the 35th round by the Cincinnati Reds in the 2014 Draft. In 2014 he was selected to the Florida All-State First Team, Miami Herald First Team All-County, Miami Herald Broward 8-A 6-A Player of the year, Miami Herald Broward Athlete of the year Runner-Up and Sun-Sentinel All-County. While in High School, Vicens was selected as MaxPreps 2013 Underclass All-American and won 3 state championships, two in baseball and one in football. Vicens will also be playing football for the Black Bears this fall.
Jonathan Bennett
The 5' 10" 190 catcher/infielder from Gulf Coast State led his team this season in hitting with a .431 batting average. In 43 games he had 56 hits, one home run and 27 RBI's, Bennett also posted a .538 slugging percentage along with a .519 on-base percentage. "He brings a ton of experience, both behind the plate as a catcher and as on offensive player. What is also important is he can play both the infield and outfield, much like Chris Bec, our other catcher signed from Miami Dade CC. Jon will add a lot of punch to our lineup for the next few years," said Steve Trimper.
Ryan Worthington
A 6'4'' 200lb RHP from Avon Old Farms High School appeared in multiple all-star games during his time at Avon Old Farms High School, he has also excelled off the diamond as well making the Head Masters list last year which requires a 3.8 GPA or better. "Ryan is a very experienced and talented pitcher from Avon Old Farms," said Trimper. "Coach Rob Dowling has one of the most successful prep school programs in the Northeast, and we are excited he is a black bear. He comes from great pitching genes, as his father, Norm, was the number one pitcher on the 1990 Div. III national champion team. Not only has Ryan impressed me with a good fastball and quality slider, but his poise and make up is what stuck out."
Trevor DeLaite
A 6'1'' 182lb LHP is a local product from Bangor, Maine. Delaite posted a 8-0 record with a .50 ERA as a Junior. He was also selected as a First Team All-State selection during his time as a Ram. Delaite received Zone 1 Pitcher of the Year honors during his Sophomore year and was a Zone 1 Player of the Year selection last summer posting a 10-0 record. "Trev has continued the line of successful student athletes to play for us from Bangor High school, and coach Fahey has done a tremendous job developing Trevor. He has won championships at many different levels, and is an absolute competitor," said coach Trimper.
Cody Laweryson
A 6'3'' 175lb RHP another Maine product, the right handed pitcher from Bingham, Maine posted a .70 ERA in 20 innings at Valley High School. He also stuck out 1.85 batters per inning while at Valley. "Cody hails from a small town in Maine, but I expect big things from him during his career at UMaine," said Trimper. "He came to one of our camps as a youngster and stood out, but recently took a huge jump physically. Cody is a tremendous athlete, and adding a power right handed arm will be a big asset to our pitching staff."
Matt Pushard
A 6'4'' 230lb 1B/RHP is another local area product from Brewer High School. Pushard was able to total a .357 batting average with 18 RBI's and two home runs while playing first base. He also pitched and posted a 5-2 record with a 1.43 ERA last season. Pushard was a First Team All-Conference selection."Matt continues a long line of successful players from Brewer, Maine, most recently Kevin McAvoy and Joel Barrett, that had tremendous careers as a Black Bear," said Trimper. "He is a big, physical presence both on the mound and at the plate."
Sam McCarthy
Sam McCarthy a 6'3'' RHP from Nashua North High School was ranked the #1 pitcher in New Hampshire by Perfect game and was ranked the #8 player in New England according to Prep Baseball Report. He was a three year letter winner for baseball and basketball. "Sam is a right handed pitcher that we were extremely pleased he chose UMAINE for his academic and athletic career to continue," said Trimper. "He has tremendous upside, with a powerful fastball in the low 90's. His body type and size will only allow him to get better and we are confident he will have a huge impact on our pitching staff."
Matt Geoffrion
A 6'3'' 200lb RHP from Algonquin High School was a four-year varsity baseball team starting pitcher and was a three year letter winner for basketball. Geoffrion was also named captain of the baseball and basketball teams for his Senior season. "Matt impressed me this past summer playing for Scott Patterson's highly successful Northeast baseball program," said Trimper. "He is another power pitcher that will give our staff a huge boost. He likes to compete and his work ethic stood out as he worked throughout the summer."
Brock Riley
A 6'00 190lb RHP from Lowell High School is a transfer from Franklin Pierce University. At Lowell High School Riley was Merrimack Valley Conference All Star as well as first team all-conference player. Additionally, Riley was an ESPN Boston All State selection. "Brock is a division one talent that in a years' time should contribute to the pitching staff," said head coach Steve Trimper.
Hernen Sardinas
A 6'2'' OF/1B from Christopher Columbus High School in Miami, Florida. At Columbus Sardinas was a 1st team All Dade county team his Senior and Junior Year. Sardinas was also a 2016 Rawlings-Perfect Game All American Honorable Mention and nationally ranked player. "Hernen is another talented player from the powerhouse Christopher Columbus High School in Miami. Hernen is a physical presence offensively who should contribute immediately," said head coach Steve Trimper.
Kyle Stevenson
A 5'10'' 160lb INF is another local talent from Bangor High School. Stevenson led Bangor High School in batting average as both a freshman (.365) and sophomore (.400) he hit .316 as a junior and this spring is batting .390 as the Rams' leadoff hitter. "Kyle will be a contributor in the middle of the field in future for the Black Bears in the future, as he displays some excellent athleticism," said head coach Steve Trimper.
PJ McDonald
A 5'11'' 170lb INF from Cheshire Academy. "PJ is a blue collar player who plays the game the right way and has the opportunity to contribute in the middle of the field," said Trimper.
