Maine Baseball falls to the Miami Hurricanes 6-2 Tuesday Night

CORAL GABLES, Florida -- The University of Maine men's baseball team falls to the Miami Hurricanes 6-2 Tuesday night.
With the loss Maine falls to 3-8 on the year while Miami improves their record to 10-2.
Justin Courtney started on the mound for the Black Bears, he went six innings striking out three, allowing six hits and one earned run. Jesse Lepore got the nod for the Canes and he also went six innings allowing six hits, one earned run and striking out six as well.
Jeremy Pena opened the game with a lead off home run to left field on a 2-1 count to put the Black Bears ahead 1-0.
In the bottom of the second, Jacob Heyward lead off with a double down the left field line. Heyward later scored in the inning after a throwing error. Miami tied the game 1-1.
Both teams were held scoreless through the next four innings, due to solid pitching from Courtney and Lepore.
Heyward lead off the bottom of the sixth singling through the left side, he later stole second. Randy Batista drove in Heyward to give Miami their first lead of the night, 2-1.
Nick Silva replaced Courtney in the bottom of the seventh. After striking out the first batter, Miami forced two straight walks. Heyward singled to third to score Zack Collins, increasing the Hurricane's lead, 3-1. After another Silva strikeout, Connor Johnson came on in relief for Maine. Willie Abreu singled to right field driving in two more runs giving Miami a 5-1 advantage. Brandon Lopez doubled down the left field line scoring once more in the inning for a 6-1 Miami lead.
In the top of the eighth, Colin Ridley singled through the left side of the infield driving in Danny Casals who reached on a single as well, to give Maine their second run of the game. Miami lead 6-2.
Miami shut down Maine in order in the top of the ninth inning, to secure the win.
The Black Bears return to action tomorrow as they face Long Island in Deland, Florida. First pitch is at 6:00 p.m.
